If you have decided to put your home on the market to try and sell it, there are a few pointers that you need to remember before doing this. Your home is a reflection of you and the household and there is always the trap of making the home too personal.
There are certain areas that prospective buyers will be looking for. You'll know the obvious ones because you will undoubtly be looking at similar points yourself when considering your next home move.
1. Make sure you have sorted out those double glazed windows. Most home-buyers now look for all windows to be at least double glazed. So even if you have a fantastic home, perfect driveway and on the best school routes, potential buyers will be put off, or ask for a reduction on the market price because they will have to go to the expense and time of replacing windows with upvc windows.
2. Loft insulation - Ensure your home is well insulated to the required standard. All too often heat is lost through the windows if they are not double glazed windows aswell as through the loft due to a lack of insulation keeping heat in. This is something you can do yourself, but make sure you get the correct thickness of insulation and make sure there are no electrical lights or potential heating hazards to catch fire in the loft.
3. The obvious one here, but keep the house tidy and clutter free. The problem with living in the home you are selling is that you can see over the mess or left over dishes in the sink, but a potential buyer will want to see all the space as a blank canvas.
There are plenty more ideas for ensuring you can sell your home, or at least make your home is at its best possible condition for potential buyers.
